It's pictures like this that make you wonder if
Todd Bertuzzi really is just waiting to sacrifice some puppies or something before a game. Too bad he couldn't take down that damned infernal "Fin".
But seriously maybe Bert has finally found his groove and can start playing his game again. And he certainly was sounding like the old Bertuzzi in this Vancouver Sun opener this morning: "In the monosyllabic words of Todd Bertuzzi, who declined to engage the press in conversation Saturday but said the phrase often enough two nights earlier for it to be stockpiled and used when needed at a later date, like now: "It is what it is.""
I guess we'll see Wednesday. Meanwhile The Vancouverite has equalled the posting pace of the official Vancouver Canucks blog for the entire month of October. We have a new friend. Hello there Canucks blog buddy. Trick or treat.

We have some sources close to Telus who inform me they actually think service has improved during the four month long job distruption. That is truly amazing. Think about it. No wonder the workers voted today to keep the fun going a few weeks longer. It's like Cats on broadway. Bravo. [Canadian Press]

I can't believe that there is a
new 21st century "Flatiron" building going up in Vancouver on Pender St,
1277 Melville to be exact. I also simply can't believe that it is basically the same as every other building going up in this city. This contemporary style, whatever they are calling it, makes every building seem exactly the same from the outside.
I like windows and glass as much as the next guy - it just a shame that the buildings them become empty looking glass houses. If you are going to pay all that money for your space it shouldn't just be a couple of glass walls should it? The building's only character is associating itself with one of the greatest buildings in New York. We get it. You think you're being clever. But you aren't actually. No, you aren't clever at all, you shouldn't even be able to call it Flatiron. Daniel Burnham is probably rolling over in his grave hearing about this. Seriously this homage more like a really bad, unsatisfying meal or movie. Think of it like CSI: NY to the original, right.
Discuss.

"Vancouver Magazine" sure makes an easy target this week. I was going to link to thier new cover story entitled Media Wars - that's right, count that I've already stolen our first post title, check! The feature, covered sub-titled "Inside the No-Holds-Barred Battle for your eyes and ears" is a barn burner of the internet is the future, the free dailies are a debacle,
Coleen Christie and
Jill Krop like so look the same, and that young people don't even read newspapers. But while you can buy it on newstands, you can't even see what it looks like online. And they scratch their heads wondering why the Internet is the future. Unbelievable.
Of course, on the whole free daily front 24 Hours President Glen Clark hit the streets to celebrate a poll showing them with 56% readership edge over The Metro. Smaller and Orange is the black people. Can you even take him seriously without his moustache? PS: Is Dose even still publishing? My god it is like the college newspaper gone mainstream. No, that might be cool.

Well here goes nothing. Welcome to The Vancouverite. We'll get into all that jazz later. For now all you need to know is two things.
1. Over the next few weeks you'll experience all the glory of a live beta content test. Ooooooo! How fun is that? That means you'll experience the dry run of content that we'll have here on this new site.
And 2. I can't thank the hard work and dedication of the very talented Art Direction from Graham MacInnes enough. And god bless the freinds and family rate I received from the Amazing Carter Gilchrist. What an oustanding job. If this blog project actually works, it is because of you two amazing and brilliant dudes. Now, when this whole blog thing doesn't work everyone will know it's not me, it's you. I mean...
So welcome. Take your shoes off and poke around for a bit. Hopefully you will see something you like. And please, no hate mail, threats, or lawsuits. I totally hate lawyers.
