Georgia Straight Chills Out

At least 24 Hours has the courtesty to put smut on it's covers. And unlike Vancouver Magazine, at least they've heard of this interweb thingy. But this week's Georgia Straight is so chilled out it's crazy.

*Where do they find these singles in the city? This week's highlight comes from Mike: IF YOU COULD HAVE A DINNER PARTY AND INVITE ANY FOUR PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO'D BE COMING? Paris Hilton, Jude Law, Winston Churchill & Charles de Gaul. de Gaul and Churchil at the same dinner? Hilarity ensues. Oh, and really, Jude Law? Why? What the hell is Paris doing there?

* The paper's first annual Chill Out issue: "Got the winter blahs? It’s tempting to curl up on the couch clutching a package of Twinkies, but that’s not going to defeat the doldrums.It may be cold, wet, and miserable most days, but that doesn’t mean you have to remain shuttered indoors." Putting the capital C into cliche.

*Review for Grandma's Boy brings an early contender for lamest review of the year. "Okay, go ahead. Roll yourself a nice fat joint and take a couple of deep, committed hits. You might as well. The creators of this perfectly nitwitted stoner flick about a weed-whacked 35-year-old video-game tester forced to shack up with his grandmother and her roommates clearly sucked up healthy samples of their stash before coming up with such for-the-ages classics as a kung fu–ing chimpanzee, armpit-farting gamer geeks, and plastic-chested babes suckling said geeks."

*Wow. Alert the media, housing costs in this city are huge. Some poor masters student, Lisa Brideau argues is this. "What Canadians want, she argued in a report she coauthored for the City of Vancouver this summer, is ground-oriented housing with a sense of place. In other words, the modest dream of a little home, with a little yard, and a neighbourhood dense enough to attract great stores and transit." What are you nuts?
