The Vancouverite Canucks Blogger: ‘all our Swedish eggs in one basket’

teamswedisheggs.jpg
Game 1 of the season saw The Canucks take on the Red Wings and walk away with a 3-1 win. Luongo lived up to expectations (aka: carried the team) and Naslund, Linden and Salo each chipped in a goal. Linden’s was his 300th as a Canuck, and not to be outdone, Nazzi scored his with his head. I’m definitely a fan of that jazzy new move. Now if we can only get Mitchell to strap his figure skates back on, I think we could have quite a show on our hands. I see spandex and sequins…

I'll get back to that after the jump, but really it's 0-0 at the 2nd, and the best stat on the Canucks home page right now is, "Canucks 0-for-2 on the power play in the first, but match an up-tempo Wild team shot-for-shot through 20 minutes." Completely inspiring.

After all the excitement of game one, game two looked like it was going to be a bit of a let down. The Blue Jackets clung to a 2-0 lead until a little third period Canucks’ magic showed up. First Morrison scores, then D. Sedin ties things up with less than 3 minutes on the clock. Then the smug bastard scores again 30 seconds into O/T. Love it. I hope Carter enjoyed watching that in his Blue Jacket’s jersey. And how many points did Carter have this game? Oh that’s right. None. I hope that extra cash is keeping you warm at night, pumpkin. Maybe you could convert it into a stack of Swedish bills, prop a stick against it and make yourself a decent line mate. Better luck next trade.

Sunday’s game was disappointing, with a 3-2 loss to Colorado. Special teams kinda fell down on the job and we went 0 for 5 on the power play. Colorado managed to go 3-8. And speaking of power plays…..8? It‘s nice to see we can still rack up the penalties without Bertuzzi. Team Sweden kept rocking it with goals from Naslund and D. Sedin, but apparently they can‘t win us every game. This whole ‘all our Swedish eggs in one basket’ strategy is fine but it’s starting to show some cracks.
Overall, the boys stepped up this week and showed off some good stuff. If they keep playing like a team and don’t let up on the "razzle dazzle", we could really start racking up some wins. Especially if someone jumps on my sequin idea. I’m pretty sure I’m onto something.
